Kids, teens and screens: faithful parenting in a digital ageThe Owen Center is putting on an event on Thursday August 21st, 2025 at 6:30 - 8:00pm. It's at the Opelika Library and is a special event about navigating the complexity of parenting kids, teens and screens! The Owen Center has helped many people in our community and you likely unknowingly actually know people they have helped. They're the best! I'm excited to announce that I'm one of the newest board members of Opelika Main Street. I've been trying to encourage the other board members to put my face on all of our street signs, but apparently a "different" committee deals with that. Many of you might've noticed the construction surrounding our house on 8th street over the past year. Our two little boys have been soaking up every minute of it. The dirt movers, the trucks, the saws, and all of the wood has been a blast. At one point it became a nightly tradition to go through one of the houses to see the progress the day before. Now after a good little bit of construction it's all complete. The party is over. Or did it just begin? The beautiful thing about the construction process is that at the end of it you have a finished house. Where dinners will be had. Where gatherings will take place. Where families will celebrate holidays. A house where someone will live. Houses, of course, are meant to be lived in. Just like how our town is meant to be lived in. To welcome our new neighbors here is what I consider to be a GREAT day in Opelika. Spoiler alert... It's heavily about food. Morning: Go grab a croissant from Stinson Breads followed by a coffee at Side Track Coffee Lunch: Go grab a sub (yes a sub!) at Dough Pizza - they're really good! Afternoon: Go get an afternoon glass of wine at Sante Dinner: Feast like a king at Zazu or Piedmont on Piedmont Night cap: Stop in at John Emerald Distillery for some local Whiskey! What are the stops and places you like to go that makes for a GREAT day? -Garrison P.S. If you like this story it'd mean the world to me if you'd share it with some friends.
