Opelika 30: Have a prayer request? Just reply!Starting October 1st through the 30th, I'm organizing 30 days of prayer for the city of Opelika. We will be meeting at noon every day at Courthouse Square. If you want to stay informed about the event, register at the event page below. Also, feel free to reply with prayer requests, etc. Or copy this link: https://lu.ma/mzaxazi6 Hey there! I frequently discuss with friends (a lot of the people reading this) the direction of Opelika. Often our ideas overlap, other times they seem to vary, but the beauty of a city like ours is that we all have portions of the same canvas. Areas where we are responsible for stewarding and providing value to the other parts of the canvas. It feels that our culture is at an interesting inflection point where we are very much so making the bed that we will lie in for the next 20-40 years. Today we are making the world that my children will grow up in. Of course this is always true, but now you are caught up on what I have been considering lately. I think all of this preamble begs the question of: Where is our town headed? I'll be honest here - I am not anticipating providing answers to this question. Tonight, I just have more questions. I am curious to know your answers and also other questions you might have. I am hopeful that in the coming months as a city we can unify on some central themes. So here are some questions that I came up with: Are we a city on a hill? Are we a hospitable people? Will we build walls or will we build bridges? Are we a people who seek the good of our city? Are we a city that drives culture? Or are we a city that is pulled by culture? Are we a united city? Are we a generous city? Are we a city filled with Good Samaritans? Or are we a city filled with religious elites? Are we a Christian city? Are we a secular city? Are we a selfish people? Or are we a selfless people? I think it is important that in the course of the next few months we begin to think through these questions. To search for answers for the kind of people we wish to be for generations to come. I see this as a time period that we can either make willful decisions and therefore impact or we can be tossed about by the waves of our times. -Garrison P.S.
